Some people might think it would cause a problem for a man to spend time speaking with a pretty woman while his wife stands there listening.
They would be right.
But here’s the thing. I’m trying to learn Spanish and my friend Rosy is from Guatemala and she calls me on the phone and we talk. She speaks Spanish to me and I pretend to understand her and I speak Spanish to her and she pretends to understand me. Then after a while we say goodbye.
We talk about things like what she has planned for the weekend, how things are going at the job and daily routine stuff.
I chat away or, more accurately, I fumble along right in front Linda. Now Linda speaks better Spanish than I do. She taught a third-grade bi-lingual class for years and is very used to speaking with parents in Spanish. And as anyone who knows a teacher understands, once a third-grade teacher, always a third-grade teacher.
So, while Rosy is speaking Spanish to me and I’m struggling to hold up my end of the conversation, Linda is jumping in and correcting my answers.
And that’s the problem right there.
I’m trying to learn Spanish and it’s like being in the third grade and high school at the same time.
