I carried a purse for the first time the other night.
We were at a wedding where our daughter, Nikki, was the matron of honor and she asked me to carry her purse.
When I agreed, I didn’t realize how big the purse was. It was huge. Later that evening I discovered there were three extra pairs of shoes in it– two for her, and one for the bride. Maybe that’s the difference between the sexes. Nikki saw the purse and figured she could stash three pairs of shoes in it. I looked at it and figured you could stash Jimmy Hoffa in it.
Either way, I was carrying around an oversized woman’s purse for much of the evening.
When I was younger, I would have found a way to refuse even if the purse were tiny. Back then a guy carrying a purse was considered a sissy.
So maybe it’s age, maybe it’s maturity, or maybe I just don’t care what people think any more, but I carried the purse without shame.
And, I have to admit it gave me a couple of keen insights. I now know what’s inside those huge purses women carry – shoes. And I’m beginning to fully understand the need to accessorize.
